Kennedy Meadows sherman pass 1 of 1 printed: 6/2/2008

Kennedy Meadows

Sherman Pass Jeep Trail and other local trails in the area.

July 5th – 6th, 2008

Run Leader: Ron Webber 714 715 5692 cell / 714 649 9836 home

webbermail@cox.net

Departure Time July 5th 9am sharp from Troy Meadows campground

Required Equipment: Rear Lockers, at least 33” tires, CB,

RSVP: To Ron Webber

CB Channel channel 4 if there is a conflict the switch channel 5.

This trail is rated difficult by Charles Wells, probably a level 3½ to 4 on a scale of 1 to 5.

I have not pre-run this trail but I will be going up on July 3rd or 4th. I don’t expect cell

phone to work up there.

This is also supposed to be a great fishing area.

Base Camp will be Troy Meadows Camp ground overflow area. The ranger said this

would be the easiest area to get into with my large RV and trailer.

This is a primitive area so bring EVERYTHING you need. Although the ride up may take

you through a hot desert area, the evenings on top of the mountain can be quite cool, so

be prepared. Fire permits are free and are needed for all fires including cooking stoves.

See below for the online link.

Troy Meadows Camp: N36 04.041 W118 14.220

Directions: About 190 miles from Corona.

From the junction of Highways 14 & 395, it is approximately 9.3 miles to the Kennedy

Meadows turn-off on to Nine Mile Canyon Rd (very steep, narrow and twisty, The ranger

said that 18 wheeler trucks do make it up and down.) Approximately 24.4 miles from

Hwy 395 is the Kennedy Meadows Store. Turn left and proceed approx. 10.4 miles to the

Troy Meadows Campground. For those arriving on Friday, plan on camping at Troy

Meadows. However, as sometimes happens, if the campground is full, the camp across

the road at the open camp area at Sam Lewis Road will be our alternate. We will depart

camp 9:00 AM Saturday morning. Gas up in Pearsonville, before the Kennedy Meadows

turn-off down the mountain. You maybe able to top off in Kennedy Meadows but gas

will be pricey no matter what the cost is down below.
